I believe that I learned most of the basic skills that we need to know to make use of computers betther in the class. However, there is something that I want to know more. That’s skills that can be applied to work. What I mean is that since I took this course at here LCJ, I have been very interested in computers. So someday, I want to be an engineer who develops computers better. Then I have got to know a lot of things still such as how far computers will evolve in 2o years and what kind of contributions I could make in the future. After all, I really think that this course helped me think about those things so much.

Future Computer Technology

I think the new computer technology that is going to be in use in the near future is the touchscreen, which said to be the new interface of computers. Actually it is already used on many devices such as Nintendo DS. So just the touchscreen is not rare anymore. What we had long waited for was technology called the multi-touchscreen. As for the original touchscreen, we could only use one finger or thing alone. Then we could not do the complicated operation. However, the multi-touchsreen allows us to use more than one finger together. iPhone has adopted this interface. since you can use more than one finger, you not only just can touch on the screen but also do things such as changing the size of a picture by squeezing or streching two fingers. What’s more since you can touch on the screen itself, you don’t need a keyboard. There is a keyboard on the screen when you need it. If this technology is applied to computers, you don’t have to have a keyboard with your computer. Then if it is a laptop that you have, it will become much lighter. I hope computers with such technology will come out soon.

What’s a Hot Spot?

A hot spot is a place which provides the internet access using the wireless LAN and where you can use the internet on your computer. WiFi is the alternate name for hot spot. Places that provide this kind of access range from Hotels to Coffee Shops to Airports to even on bullet trains. You can use the internet in many places. However, they are not neccesarily free. In many cases, you have to pay to use or you have to make a contract with a provider in ahead of the time. But still there are a lot of places that provides them for free. I think Hot Spots have prevailed more in the U.S. than Japan. One reason for that is people in japan use cellphones as devices to access internet. You can be almost anywhere to get access. Because still a lot of people especially Bussinessmen use the internet on their laptops, it is good to make more hot spots.

Effects of Computer Technology on the Presidential Election

Today, I would like to discuss what effects computer technology had on the Presidential Election. I think effects were so big and those effects really interested people in the election. I think the biggest effect was video hosting service, which enabled people to be more interested in the election. YouTube is really famous for it. There were YouTube channels such as “BarackObamadotcom” and “JohnMcCaindotcom”, in which Those candidates could express his opinion and release his statement very timely and easily. What’s more, a YouTube channel named “You Choose ’08″ enabled people and the candidates to exchange their opinions by contributing their movies.

I do not think this kind of technology has been changing Japan yet. However in the near future, if we have that kind of technology, I am sure that the elections in Japan will be more exciting than ever.

“Attention Apple Store Web Freeloaders: Facebook is Now Banned” on Friday Feb 6, 2009

According to Gizmodo, it became impossible for customers to access to Facebook at all Apple Stores anymore since it was recently banned by the stores. They said computers there are supposed to be used to see how they work. However, People had kept using the computers as if the Apple Stores had become an Internet cafe. As supplementary information, accessing to MySpace has been already banned since 2007.

I think it is a funny article. I cannot help but laugh when I think of that most people came to the store just to check what’s on the Facebook. Such SNS freaks should buy iPhone or some kind of Smart Phones so that they can check Facebook or MySpace or whatever they want.lol

What’s happening, guys!?

Today I will be teaching you what ”phishing” is. Phishing is a type of fraud that tries to get the personal information of Internet users by sending spams. I have never encountered such mails that try to trick me into telling my information. However, it is so prevailed that one of my friends was almost deceived.

The typical way that swindlers tries to get the personal information is that they send emails which say that they are, for example, the credit card company. Then they tell credit card users that the expiration date of their cards is soon. Then they have users put their information such as password and the card number. Then they get information and withdraw money from the bank.

I suggest what you can do to keep away from being tricked. suspecting is what you have to do. You have to always suspect the emails that asks such things. Most credit companies assures that they do not ask such questions.

I hope you will not be tricked by such vicious fraud.

Browsers and Office Suites

Hi guys?! How are you doing lately?

Today I am going to show 4 examples of web browsers and office suites.

Browsers

The first one is the Internet Explorer. This browser is developed by Microsoft and the most popular one now. This is because Most people use Windows and the browser is already in there so that they do not have to download a browser on the Internet at first.

The second on is the Safari. This is developed by Apple and people who use a Mac computer has it as a default browser. It is not a s widely used as the Internet Explorer, but it is still popular.

The third one is the Mozilla Firefox. This is not a default browser of any computers, but it is the second most popular browser used after the Internet Explorer.

The forth on is the Google Chrome, which is developed by Google and one of the newest browser. It is said that this browser got 1% of the share in the day when it was released.

Office Suites

Microsoft Office is the first example of the office suites. This is developed by Microsoft and used on Windows computers. It also has the biggest share in the office suites.

iWork is the second example. This is used on Mac computers and developed by Apple. This is the most popular one on Mac computers.

SoftMaker Office is the third one. This office suite is free and can be used on OS’s such as Windows and Linux but not Mac.

The last one is Lotus Symphony. This is also a free software and it can be used on Mac as well as Windows and Linux.

Hi! How are you doing? Today, I am introducing 3 websites which I think are useful.

Fisrt one is the Billboard (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/index.jsp). This is the site where you can find out What the latest songs in the U.S. that are really hot now are. Besides that, you can read the news about music and reviews of popular singers’ albums and songs.

Second one I am gonna introduce to you is Sing365 (http://www.sing365.com/index.html). In this site, you can find the lyrics of songs that are relatively poplular. If you want to find the lyrics of Britney Spears’ songs, I bet you won’t miss them. It is not like the Japanese websites in the way you can copy lyrics. So you can copy them and put it in your songs on the iTunes and read them on your iPod!! Then you might not need to go to karaoke. lol

Third one, which I recently found and think really useful, is Urban Dictionary(http://www.urbandictionary.com/). In this website, people themselves define English slang words that are used daily. So it will be much more useful when you go overseas. you will hear many words and phrases that are not familiar with you. However, you can easily find the meanings of them here.

So please try them if you like!!

What’s Social Networking?

These days, you probably hear the word “Social Networking” but might not know what it is. However, if you hear a word like “mixi” or “Myspace”, you then know what it is. These sites are what Social Networking is all about. It is literally a social network on the Internet. In short, it’s like a society on the Internet.

These Social Networking Services such as mixi, Myspace, Facebook offer you space to introduce yourself, for example, where you’re from, what you like doing and so on. What’s more you can write diaries in your space. People often use it as a method to expand their networking. If you have got a mixi account, you are able to access to other people’s page and hopefully get to know many things about them and who they are. If you and a person have hobbies in common you can just speak to him or her. Sometimes you can find your old friends back in even elementary school!!

I think why people prefer to use them is that people are becoming more passive to communicate with people in person. Because these days, the Internet is so common and you can easily communicate with people even if you are at home and I believe that there is less need to talk to people in person than before.

I actually have a mixi and a Myspace account but a Facebook account. Myspace was second to none until a few years. But Facebook is growing so fast and almost overwhelming Myspace. It really urges me to make an account and I will probably make an account of Facebook sometime in the near future. So when I make an account, please be my friend!!!! lol

Computers and Me

I didn’t really started using the computer until when I was in junior high school.

My primary purpose for using the computer was to have an email account and get in touch with friends.

At that time, I was not so interested in this kind of things. But many of my friends had an email account or a cellphone with which they could send emails or text messages. So I decided to get an email account,and once I got it, I got hooked on it.

When I entered high school and got a cellphone, I still kept using computers for a different reason. At that time, I loved music (still lovin’ it lol) and I found a site which let me watch the music videos of my favorite artists for free. Isn’t that nice?? So I couldn’t help but leave the computer.

Now, I have my own computer and I am always in front of a computer for doing different things. I need the computer to watch music videos, download songs from iTunes and do homework. I might be called as a computer addict and I cannot live without it.

By the way, I am not a Mac person for some reasons. I have never used a Mac computer at home. Most importantly, I cannot understand why a mouse of Mac is like that and it is really confusing to me that it has only one click.

However, Mac computers are more stylish than Windows ones and they let people be cooler. So I might wanna buy a Mac computer sometime in the future.
